Your NEEDS, or motivators are inborn in you, and they are what drives you. What you NEED in your life to feel satisfied, alive, energized and enthused. Even if you don’t know it; you are always seeking fulfillment of these needs. When these needs are not being met you feel unsatisfied, frustrated, depressed. Often it is difficult to even put a finger on what the problem is…you think “I have a good life. Why am I not happy?

According to Dr. Jose Stevens, author of The Michael Handbook, there are 9 basic needs: Security, Expansion, Acceptance, Adventure, Power, Communion, Freedom, Expression and Exchange.

Knowing which of these intrinsic needs motivates you can make an enormous difference in your sense of satisfaction, happiness and even your health. During my program 3 Keys to Discover and Live Your Authentic Purpose!™ we delve deep into these needs and identify not only what they are, but all the ways they have been affecting your life!  Career choices, hobbies, life goals, relationships are all affected.

Relationships are a great example. Choosing partners that fulfill our deepest needs and whose needs we fulfill, will be the most intimate, happy of relationships. This can come about by serendipity – the meeting of soul mates who immediately recognize each other. You’ve read about or know relationships like this that are amazing from the beginning to the end. But all of us can have this!

It starts with knowing what drives you and what drives the person you are with.  Often recognizing the inner differences can open up and allow the love to bloom stronger and more powerfully.

Stepping into who you are and not who others think you should be, is a huge step.

She is starting to see the importance and the meaning of self-discovery and how that will take her to a dream that she has had for a very long time.

Last night, she said, Imagine if everyone were living with knowing this for themselves – What an amazing and happy world we would have?!?

She, like 84% of adults, lived her life based on a “False-self”.

This false self comes from others telling you who you are, what you should do and how they believe you should behave. Don Miguel Ruez, author of the Four Agreements, calls this the Mitote. The village of inner voices that shouts inside your head every time you make decisions. Most of these developed before you were 7 years old.

Do you stand in the grocery store and begin to reach for a cake only to hear an inner voice saying “don’t eat that – your too fat—you always were the greedy one…” voices of parents, sisters, brothers, friends, teachers, television, perhaps that neighbor you only met once.  The voices can also be positive but just as effective in molding our behavior.  “You are the oldest… now, what do you really want to do…She’s going to be a lawyer, I just know it…of course you like blue”

The list is endless but the messages stay with us.

Do you have an inner dream or longing? Does it seem as farfetched as a Disney fairy tale? No need for a knight to recue you. It’s time for you to spring up and to let your inner seeds of brilliance bloom!

Limiting beliefs, self-sabotaging habits, and old messages have been stored in your subconscious mind since you were a very young child. It is NOW time to release those so that you can freely and easily move forward – share your unique gifts in a bigger, more satisfying way.

Another of my clients on a recent coaching call, said, “I’m there!  I’m happy!  I feel really good,

I’m really clear about what I want and what makes me happy.  I feel clear and confident.”

Start by taking a look at unearthing the seeds of magic that have long been kept buried, waiting for you to uncover them.  Do you remember what you wanted to do as a child, the personality traits you displayed? Have they changed? Are you happy with the changes? Take a few quiet moments and talk with your inner child.  If you are having trouble remembering or identifying those inner seeds/dreams, I have tools to unearth them (no matter how deep).

I am moving forward by unlocking my inner dreams and growing my true brilliance.

You will find and know your purpose.  You came here with bigger dreams and capabilities.  You just need a hand discovering where they are buried. They are lying deep inside like seeds. Together we can dig down, clear the: shoulds” and “oughts” away to find your perfection.

Some of my clients have told me that they feel like they should be doing more. They don’t quite know what that is or how to find it But they are ready to find it.

There is an answer! There is a way out!

Discovering and living your authentic purpose is the Secret to Success in all areas of your life.  So why is it so difficult?  Why is discovering the unique brilliance within you like trying to catch a fish with your bare hands? You can see it, and almost grasp it but it slips through time and again.

The reason is that we have been conditioned to see ourselves in a certain light.  You are the pretty one…the corporate exec…the mom…the middle child…the funny one… Try writing it out what is your list? Who does everyone think you are. Don’t worry about if it’s true or not.

Take a pen and paper.  Write down the primary people in your life on every few lines (leaving space between) No go back and write who you think they see you as.

At the end look at the list.

Do you feel validated? Or are you reading the labels and going that’ not me or yes, but…

Do the labels make you feel angry, distressed or disgusted? Take a  deep belly breath. It’s okay, this is your life and you can change it.  You do not have to be limited by these beliefs.

You are beginning to discover a key! A key to your uniqueness. My clients are just like you. The difference is they, one day, woke up and realized that they couldn’t shed these labels alone. That they needed guidance, support and the gifts that I could give them. Call me I can melt those limiting beliefs in 10 min – 90 min processes. You will be amazed.

To tell you that you did a good job or that you are on the right track?

STOP right there.

Ask yourself what does it matter what others think?

You know deep within yourself the right path to follow. You know this because everything in your heart yearns for it and bursts with joy at the thought of it.  Maybe you are a creative deep inside. Maybe you love accounting and the way numbers fit together. Maybe you love being a stay at home mom, nurturing others. Maybe adventure is in your soul. Whatever it is embrace it!

Swirl and Dance to Your Own Rhythm

raucous applause and standing ovations. If you are wondering where is the crowd? Stop for a moment: Breathe deep – remind yourself of the joy of your decisions, choose one moment and hold it tight.  Relax into the memory and let yourself sway with the inner dance of joy, light and bliss.

Climb into yourself on stage. You are strong and confident, you are dancing. It may be a soft ballet, or it could be a wild salsa. Your dance is your expression of your choice to be authentic and you are perfect.

Keep dancing but now imagine a second you sitting in the front row.  A You that watches with pride.  Clap wildly, shout out, toss a bouquet or a single rose.

You are your own audience. You are the only one whose opinion really matters.

Appreciate your efforts, what it took to get you to this point. Often my clients have trouble with this.  You like them may still be held back by thoughts of unworthiness, fear or concern about what others are thinking. So many of my clients started there but now full of confidence, self appreciation and are moving forward in lives they now love. Wonderful words, but where do you start? Many of my clients start in this place having no idea where their bliss is. Perhaps this describes you…. you have a desire for deeper, more meaningful relationships,… are ready to discover greater opportunities and possibilities…you want to find your bliss… your inner dance.

JoAnn wondered this very thing. “I started working with Laurie when I had reached a crossroads in my life. I was extremely unhappy with where I was in my life, but unsure of how to get myself unstuck and out of the firmly entrenched rut I was in and move myself forward.”

The first step to moving forward and to discovering your inner dance is to look at the patterns in your life. There are continual messages from your childhood; that keep running through your mind. Whispers of I can’t do that, or I am not good enough. They form blocks that stop you from trying, from growing and from finding your bliss.

One technique I use is to take a paper and pen. Write down one of your heart felt desires. Now write down as many blocks to this as you can think of.

I call these Limiting Beliefs and Patterns.  These must be looked at and destroyed in order for you to break free!!         

Next, change to your non-dominant hand. Using that one, write down your desire and what is blocking it. Like most people, you probably found that using your non-dominant hand was difficult. Focusing on the writing instead of the thinking usually yields new results. Did you find new blocks? Ones you hadn’t even realized were lurking inside you?

This is just the first step to unearthing the blockages to your bliss – Your inner dance. But, it can be a powerful one.

Now you are on the way to discovering all the amazing talents that have been hiding inside. Just like a dance center has a dance instructor, it may take someone else to help you to discover these inner gifts.

Have you ever heard the beat of an infectious song? Your toe starts to tap, your hips slightly sway, your head bobs up and down. Try as you might your body knows the rhythm and instinctively tries to move to it. Your body knows.

Do you rock out? Do you go with it and let the dance take you? Probably not. Probably, you like most hold yourself back. And yet as DeMille knew to dance is to release your inner divinity. To allow yourself to fully let go and to step into the rhythm is to become larger, more beautiful, more powerful.

Am I really talking about only the act of dancing? Of course not – it is a metaphor for all the things that we hold back on. The dreams we stuff down, because they are impractical; the vision of our self that we don’t feel strong enough to show to the world. But our bodies know and try to go with the rhythm of those dreams and visions anyway.

When you hold back, you lessen yourself and feel stressed. Your body knows – that tightness in your stomach that tells you that you’re unhappy; the tension headaches or moments reaching for something to eat. You know you aren’t playing full out. But you may not know what else to do?

When clients come to me I have a gift for them – the gift of being able to go deep into their hidden, undiscovered talents and to pull them into the light. I help them take the stage and stand in their own glorious magnificence.

And then…

I unlock the dreams and desires to move them forward. Not just a shuffling tiny step or two. Not just toe tapping and wishing they were out on the dance floor but full out movement. They feel the freedom and joy of being in the dance. Try it… try letting yourself dance to the music.

Put on one of your favorite tunes… turn the music up. Grab a scarf and dance. Don’t worry if you are in step. There is no right or wrong. This is your dance and everything is right!

Raise your hands to the ceiling, drop at the waist and swing to the floor, move those hips, relax into the music and let your body sway to it any way it wants or can. Do you feel the freedom, the power? Now imagine if every moment of everyday was a dance.

Sometimes it just takes someone else to take your hands: to swing them in rhythm, getting you going, to show you a few moves and to help in choreographing your dance of life. Move forward, feel the freedom and the joy of dancing on the path that is right for you!

Because of fear.

Fear of the unforeseen consequences of either choice.  Remember the time honored exercise in trust? Falling backwards into the arms of a partner.  There is that moment of doubt. The mind begins to focus on this. Thoughts swirl the fears and uncertainties; adding discomfort, distrust and disbelief.

But when you stop yourself, listen to your internal guidance and trust…

You relax and are safe.

There may be bumps and challenges but you are on your heart guided path.

Listen to the feelings of rightness, warmth and joy that lead to the correct path, and listen to the feelings of tightness that tell you a path is wrong for you.  Feel and follow these internal nudges.

Your heart will take you to opportunities and synchronicities that lead you to higher and higher potential.  The right people, opportunities and supports will appear.

Allow yourself to relax back and fall.  Allow yourself to follow your heart.

 Open Your Life to the Abundant Flow

If aren’t receiving the abundance and prosperity you want, you may be unknowingly blocking the flow. Many people, through self-sabotage, actually push abundance and prosperity away. The question is, how do you open the flood gates to the abundance life that you deserve and know is possible for you?

Abundance is the experience of plenty. Plenty of what you truly need and want in your life; material and otherwise. Catherine Ponder, in her book, “Open Your Mind to Prosperity,” says “You are prosperous to the degree that you are experiencing peace, health and plenty in your world.

When you are experiencing true abundance, you have passion in your life, positive relationships, life experiences that you cherish and desire, personal and professional growth and development, and individual moments that you savor.

People often come to me saying, “I’m not sure what I need, but I know I need something. I’m just not happy with my life the way that it is.” When I ask them what they want, virtually all of them say they want more peace, more meaning and more fulfillment in their lives.

So, what’s the missing link? In our culture, abundance is often equated with getting more money. Yet, the pursuit of money often draws our body, mind and spirit out of balance. Having money isn’t a bad thing and you should feel free to pursue any amount of money that feels good to you. However, many people have made the pursuit of money the main source of abundance which in turn can leave them feeling drained, searching for more meaning, fulfillment and peace in their lives.

What does abundance mean for you in your life?

1) What kind of life would be ideal for you?

2) What positive priorities would support that vision?

3) Who and/or what are your most precious possessions, relationships and experiences?

4) Are you allowing yourself the time and energy to do the things that spark your most creative power?

5) How do you currently use your gift of time?

Write a summary statement of your answers. Are you currently living your life according to what is most valuable to you? Are there some things that you would like to change?

So many people postpone pursuing their dreams because we think we’ll get to them later, when we have more time, or when something happens first. As a result, too many people go through life feeling weighed down by daily responsibilities, “shoulds,” “have-to’s,” and “musts.” We become prisoners of our own self-doubts and being disconnected from our values, our purpose, and what brings us abundance in every moment.

Abundance and prosperity is about doing what matters to you in every moment, and feeling fulfilled and alive now. If you’re like most people, getting clarity on your purpose, values and your right path that brings you the true and meaningful abundance you want may seem like a nearly impossible task. For many years, I have been helping people transform their lives by unearthing their gifts, their true potential, and creating their plan to let their most rewarding path unfold and lead a life of fulfillment, success and meaning.

Abundance is more than just having money.

    Although money is often a part of it, but real abundance means having things that fulfill and satisfy you.  So, knowing what fulfills and satisfies you allows you to consciously choose what you want to create, experience, and what you want to draw into your life.

   The first step is; knowing what fulfills you and what you want.  When you know what you need in your life, and exactly what you want, you can master your life, your experiences, your emotions, your relationships and your money, rather than being mastered by it.

  Real abundance is also about flow.  Letting go of what no longer serves, fulfills or satisfies you.  Flow in life is natural.  Look at nature and how it continuously flows; night into day, the seasons, the years.  The migration of the hummingbirds and butterflies.  They don’t have calendars and clocks.  They “go with the flow!”  They know when it is time to let go of what served them for the season, and they follow the natural flow into something new.

  What would happen to the hummingbird or butterflies if they didn’t go with the flow of nature?  If they decided that they wanted to hang around in the nest or garden they had resided in for the summer here in Chicago?  They would die!

What are you hanging on to that no longer serves you?

  Look at your life like the cycles or flow in nature.  Because you are part of nature!  The only thing that separates humans from animals is the appearance of our frontal lobe in our brains.  The frontal lobe allows us to discern, and choose or reject things based on conscious choice.  Without that, we too would not be able to make conscious choices and decisions for ourselves and would have to rely only on our natural instincts to survive.

  While that is a gift, for it is what makes us human and gives us the ability to create these rich, rewarding and complex lives we live, it has also, in far too many ways, driven us away from our true nature, which is…. nature!  The point being, viewing the natural cycles of life, things, people and experiences come into our lives at a particular time to serve a particular need or desire.  Letting go of some of those things when it is no longer serving a need is part of the natural cycle of life. 

  The good news is that in keeping with what we know about the flow of nature, when we let go of the old, it creates a vacuum, a space for the new to come in!  Winter doesn’t simply leave.  It eases its way out and is replaced by Spring.  That is the natural flow of life’s cycles.

Coach’s Request:

  What are some of the things you are hanging on to that have served their purpose, filled a need at a particular time in your life, and are ready to retire or move on?  Don’t only focus on the tangible items.  Go beyond the obvious, and consider things like old beliefs or self-sabotaging habits.  Things that, at one time may have made sense, kept you safe, do not serve you and assist you in your desire for growth, fulfillment and abundance.  In fact, these may be the very things that stand in your way, hold you back or stop you from having more of what you do want in your life.
